Tell the EBRD to Make up its Own Mind on the BTC Pipeline...Based on the Facts
On November 11 the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is due to decide on its slated USD 250 million financing for Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. Having witnessed the IFC's contempt not only for campaigners' concerns but also its own safeguard policies (on November 4 the International Finance Corporation approved USD 250 million in financing for the pipeline), the EBRD is shaping up to do likewise. Please send an email or fax to the EBRD Executive Director. (read more)

Georgia´s on our minds: action against repression of a peacefull BTC opposition
On September 17 members of the Tbilisi-based environmental NGO Lobo held a peaceful rally in Borjomi , upholding their democratic right to voice opposition to the BTC pipeline. What followed was a disproportionate, at times brutal, police clampdown which broke up the rally. We urge you to back the democratic right to campaign in Georgia by writing to and faxing the Borjomi Gamgebeli, Gedevan Popkhadze.

Bypass the problematic Skopje Bypass in Macedonia
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering giving a loan to the government of Macedonia to build the western section of a bypass around the Macedonian capital, Skopje. However, this road will seriously affect the lives of people living along the planned route, and no proper alternatives to the government's route, nicknamed the "Road of Death" by opponents, were respected.

Stop destruction of unique Icelandic ecosystem
The Icelandic Government and Alcoa, the world's largest aluminum company, plan to build a large dam and aluminum smelter project in Iceland. If built, the Kárahnjúkar Hydropower Project will have massive impacts on Iceland's Eastern Highlands, Europe's second-largest remaining wilderness area. Check the website of the Iceland Nature Conservation Association (INCA), http://www.inca.is, for more information about this project.

Stop European Union from funding Cernavoda nuke plant in Romania
The European Commission is proposing to lend money to the government of Romania to build a new reactor at Romania's only nuclear power plant. The proposed expansion of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, however, is in violation of the international Espoo treaty. Since Romania has more energy than it needs, the government plans to export the energy. Also, due to the country's outdated energy network, 20% of electricity is lost in transmission - why doesn't the EU help Romania fix its broken system before plugging more nuke energy into it? • Location through which D8 highway financed by EIB should pass
European money for destructive road project in the Czech Republic? No way!
The European Investment Bank (EIB) will decide - possible as soon as Monday - whether to loan EU money for a controversial section of motorway linking Prague and Dresden, which would pass through sensitive natural areas. The Czech government has consistently refused to consider alternative routes, and now is asking for EU taxpayer money to support this poorly-designed project. The road would pass through the Eastern Krusne Hory mountains, a proposed Natura 2000 site, meaning that EU money would be used to undermine EU plans for nature protection. (read more)
