Sakhalin Environment Watch

is an independent, nonpolitical nongovernment organization, whose mission is to protect the natural ecosystems of the Sakhalin Region. SEW was created in 1995 as an unformal group of citizens and was officially registered in 1997.





SEW's main goals are

  • protecting and defending the environment and nature of the Sakhalin Region
  • conducting public environment control
  • defending ecological rights and legal interests of citizens
  • organizing and realizing public environment expertise

The main directions of SEW's activities are

  • preserving the forests of the Sakhalin Region
  • increasing the ecological security of Sakhalin's offshore oil and gas projects
