Friends of the Earth - CEPA (FoE-CEPA)
FoE-CEPA is a not-for-profit non-governmental organization with its headquarters in Ponicka Huta, Central Slovakia. It was created after the split of the Center for Environmental Public Advocacy (CEPA, established in 1992) to institutionalize CEPA´s Sustainable Economy Program. The organization´s objectives include promoting environmental, social and economic justice, supporting sustainable regional development and strengthening effective participation of citizens in decision-making processes linked with public interest issues.
FoE-CEPA performs its activities at local, regional, national and international levels. It organizes campaigns, seeks and activates citizens and their groups, and provides educational, publishing and consultation services.
Programs Citizens v. Corporations targets perverse public subsidies for transnational corporations and campaigns for the establishment and enforcement of binding rules for private business to prevent environmental and social destruction and the undermining of public interests. Program Public Interests v. Public Finances focuses on the economic, environmental and social policies and operations of international development banks, monitoring of EU funds and campaigns to ensure transparency and democracy in the decision-making related to public funds. Program Towards Sustainable Development promotes sustainable projects in marginalized regions that strengthen economic self-sufficiency and social justice.
